A space for Southern Africans in the UK to connect, grow, and give back. We are professionals who know that community is not a luxury it is infrastructure.
London Lekgotla was founded to give Southern Africans in the UK a space to connect, organise, and belong. Given our region's unique history, many of us arrive without extended family, older generations, or established community infrastructure, which can leave us professionally visible, but socially isolated.
We draw deep inspiration from Black professionals across the UK: from West African, Caribbean, and pan-African communities who have built powerful networks of visibility, advocacy, and support. London Lekgotla exists alongside these spaces, not instead of them. We encourage all our members to engage broadly, learn, and show up as better brothers and sisters within the wider Black and African community.
Our focus on Southern Africa is deliberate, not exclusive. It reflects a need for cultural fluency, strategic focus, and a desire to address region-specific barriers: from underrepresentation in leadership to building philanthropic bridges back home.
We are Pan-African in spirit, Southern African in strategy, and committed to rising together.
Looking to find your people, grow your impact, and reconnect with your roots? There is a place for you here.
We create space for diaspora professionals to connect authentically across industries, generations, and life stages. From rooftop mixers and cultural watch parties to wine nights and welcome dinners our events are where shared identity meets shared joy.
We believe in paying it forward. We are building a buddy and mentorship programme to match new arrivals and early-career professionals with established members alongside business dialogues, leadership panels, and guest speakers from across the UK and Africa.
We are more than our professional titles. London Lekgotla is a platform to uplift our communities both here in the UK and back home through diaspora philanthropy, fundraising, and partnerships with grassroots initiatives that reflect who we are and where we come from. This work is in its early stages, and we are building it with intention.
Our inaugural event set the tone for what London Lekgotla would become. Hosted in an immaculate sky-high lounge overlooking the city skyline, we gathered to articulate our shared purpose, connect as a new community, and co-create the identity of this network. Guests heard from a powerful keynote speaker on the importance of heritage in professional spaces and together we named what we were building.
In collaboration with South African sommelier Pamela Pilime, whose training spans some of Mayfair's most prestigious establishments, we hosted an intimate evening exploring wine, culture, and professional etiquette. From decoding wine lists to mastering the unspoken rules of business dining it was an experience as refined as it was empowering.
We gather regularly from intimate dinners and wine evenings to outdoor events and leadership panels. Follow us on LinkedIn or join our WhatsApp community to be the first to know what is coming next.
Moving to the UK as a Southern African professional is exhilarating and complicated. Visas, tax obligations in two countries, NHS dental surprises, ILR absence tracking, the Life in the UK test, professional re-registration. It adds up.
Our New Joiners Handbook is a community-built, regularly updated guide covering everything from day one to citizenship written by people who have been through it.
London Lekgotla is for Southern African professionals who want more than a LinkedIn connection. We want builders, givers, doers people who show up.
Fill in the form and we will be in touch. In the meantime, connect with us on LinkedIn and request to join our WhatsApp community.
